A magical moment.

Buak Haad Park in Chiang Mai is a beautiful place where every morning professional teachers from all around the globe share their passion for yoga. One morning a teacher I hadn’t seen before appeared with various musical instruments. While handing out pieces of paper with chants on them, she invited everyone to put away their yoga mats, gather around in a circle and sing.

At first it felt a bit uncomfortable as I’m not good at singing, nor remembering new song texts. While fumbling with my reading glasses - trying to accurately chant the chants and pay attention to what was happening around me - I realized I was overthinking the situation. I put away my glasses, closed my eyes, listened to the vocals of the group and let my sounds come out naturally…The resulting experience was nothing less than magical. It felt like I’d floated away on clouds filled with the vibrational energy of everyone present. After opening my eyes again, both the space and the people seemed clearer and I felt lighter - almost not believing that a (collective) voice could be so powerful. “What was that?” I later asked the teacher.

Lizzy responded proudly: “That was Kirtan!”
